ARMCHAIR TRAVEL: WASHINGTON COLOR SCHOOL
Did you know that in the 1960's a group of Washington DC artists developed their own 'school' of painting style? Join SAAM Docent Melissa Clark for a look at the work of six painters whose work broke away from that of the Abstract Expressionists as part of the 'color field' movement that lasted into the 1970s. We'll look at works by Gene Davis, Kenneth Noland, and others, and learn how an influential art critic from New York had a hand in turning the attention of the art world away from Abstract Expressionists and toward the work of the Washington Color School. The title of the artwork is "Hot Beat" by Gene Davis.
