FIELD TRIP TO THE NATIONAL GALLERY EAST WING

·      Join East Rock Creek Village friends for a special outing to the National Gallery of Art to explore the powerful work of Elizabeth Catlett, an artist who centered race, gender, and class justice throughout her eight-decade career. Catlett created art for the people, highlighting the lives, struggles, and resilience of Black American and Mexican women.

·      Meet-Up: We’ll gather at 10:45 AM in front of the Takoma Metro Station to take the Red Line to Judiciary Square, followed by a 12-minute walk (0.4 miles) to the museum.

·      Coming from Silver Spring? Let us know at 202-656-7322 so we can meet you on the platform.

·      Lunch Together: We’ll have an early lunch (at your own expense) at one of the National Gallery’s cafés before the tour.

·      Guided Tour: From 1:00 to 1:50 PM, we’ll enjoy a docent-led tour of the Elizabeth Catlett exhibition, learning about the pivotal moments in her life as an artist-activist.

·      Return: We expect to return to Takoma Metro around 3:00 PM.
