Academy Award–winning director Chloé Zhao (NOMADLAND) helms this lush and tender drama about William Shakespeare (Paul Mescal) and his family, as seen through the eyes of his thoughtful wife Agnes (a luminous Jessie Buckley). In William Shakespeare’s day, the names Hamlet and Hamnet were interchangeable. Using that context as the basis for a tender exploration of Shakespeare’s domestic life, Zhao connects a family tragedy, the death of his 11-year-old son, Hamnet, to one of his most famous works, Hamlet.
Based on the popular novel by Maggie O’Farrell, HAMNET also stars Emily Watson, Joe Alwyn and Jacobi Jupe.
